lil update...

Tue Aug 25, 2009, 4:20 PM
So I survived IMATS. no i didnt win but it was an interesting experience.... very stressful. I got to meet the man, Dick Smith! He's the godfather of makeup. He tried to steal my beer LOL! I was so happy to be able to meet him before he passes. Hes gotta be mid to late 70's maybe even in his 80's. Still he's amazing and meeting him was one of my dreams. All in all I experienced and learned alot from IMATS.

Well after IMATS I had a big project and a short amount of time to design and make a fish monster for this scifi thing called Death Valley. ill have to post up some pictures of that later. The time crunch required me to go a few nights without sleep. Luckily i made a friend at GM Foam and he let me come in a run the foam and he gave me some of the access to pour my fish monster mask. Great guy , big thanx!

during the last few days of sculpting the fish monster my dog Stoney got sick. I took her to the vet and they informed me she had an enlarged heart because of cancer. fluid was building up in her chest and she was suffocating. They told me I had to put her down. I had 8 great years with her, she will be missed.

that same day i had to finish the fish monster sculpt and mold it. With a lil help from one of my interns i was able to finish and finally sleep! I swear my life is so surreal

Once we wrapped Death Valley. I didnt have down time before I was leaving to texas. I got a job out there 2 days before and they said whats it gunna take to get you to come out to houston? of course I said Id do it! There was no prep time I hadent even gotten a copy of the script all i knew when i left california and the movie is called godboy. I figured... godboy.... another relgious project basic beauty makeup maybe scuff marks. when i got there and I got a copy of the script my reaction was Holy Shit. Drug scenes, orgy sequences with UV body paint, ejaculation in church LOL!, and of course kill after kill. Im pretty sure were going to hell.

there was a big cast of lead actors. Houston made it kinda tough to keep the makeup looking perfect, since the actors were sweating bullets. all in all we had an awesome shoot and great memories were made. I had alot of fun in houston, except for towards the end. as I was packing to leave, this crazy sharp pain dropped me to the floor. I tried to deal with it thinking it was just a major cramp.... til I started puking. Seriously the worst pain Ive ever felt in my life. hands down.

I called the producer who was at the same hotel. I told him he had to take me to the hospital. I met the guys down stairs. they took forever. finally one of the actors comes out with the keys and says we only have the passanger van. ok this van is death on wheels, none of the gages work and it maybe only goes 40 mph. He told me its at least a 45 min drive to the hospital and we had to stop for gas. Mean while im puking in a big gulp cup in the van , in the worst pain ive ever felt in my life.

finally we get there they do a cat scan of my abdomen. then they gave me a bed and some morphine. So life was good from that point on really. Apparently I had a kidney stone. The hospital told me the pain I was in was equivalent to labor pains. So I had a baby kidney stone in texas. That stone kept me in texas an extra 2 weeks. Now Im back

You use Ubuntu Miriam? I just reinstalled Ubuntu on my system for dual booting. Well, Xubuntu actually. I had Ubuntu Intrepid, but I always get glitches 'cause I like to mess with stuff. Customize the crap out of it and mess with repositories and stuff, getting cool bean programs. :P I decided to try Xubuntu out though... and if I don't like it, I'm trying out Kubuntu. I always wondered what KDE was like. Gnome is nice but I know a lot of people prefer KDE.

I use some KDE programs on my computer. Ubuntu is totally customizable. You do have to know the system before you go messing with things and there is always going to be small glitches depending on the programs and FX your running. If I get stuck somewhere I run the virtual box to get windows access to everything I need since some programs wont work along with Ubuntu. Personally I love the system. If you get stuck you can always research the problem with Ubuntu forums and you will usually find your answer. Seriously you shouldn't have to mess with the system too much since Its totally customizable on it own thru the synaptic package manager and the awn manager. Honestly its a great operating system, Its just a matter of figuring out the basics once you do all the programs and games and pretty much any software is all free and everything converts to whatever format. Your welcome to ask me questions if you get stuck I might be able to help

VMWare is great. I have a pretty good understanding of it so far... I installed Hardy Heron when it came out but switched back to Windows because my audio card wasn't supported. I spent like all day for weeks trying to figure out various drivers and stuff. I guess that's one good thing about it. I learned a lot trying to figure out how to get something so simple to work. =P Intrepid seems a lot better though.

I also hear good things about open suse. I pretty much just stick with what the Ubuntu set up I ave is specifically for artists so theres lots of great programs and shortcuts to work with images and stuff. I love it but sometimes it does retarded things that I have to try to figure out. None the less I am happy. i just wish there was more users so they would make it more compatible with stuff alot like like mac or windows are.
